Beam Sandwich

Back to work tomorrow - had to set up some mirrors and let the beams fly before the long weekend was over (US holiday - Memorial Day - Thank you for your service, service men/women!)

Almost went for a double-decker (3 pieces of "bread"); maybe next time ;)

Two 1st-surface mirrors, with some dental mirrors used to redirect "escaping" beams back into the sandwich.

Lasers involved:
Started with just a 510nm and 445nm
Added in a 650nm and 405nm
Swapped the 445nm with the 488nm

Cheers!! :)

Schematics of Dr.Lava Micro Flex Drive V5 / Replacement for pot / trimmer

Hi guys,

in my last thread, I posted this schematic of the Dr. Lava Micro Flex Drive V5. Since no one would find it there, I think it is useful to make a thread for this.

I recently modified one of these and had the opportunity to check the pot again.
I know this is interesting since these pots tend to break and finding a replacement is hard. I found that the Panasonic EVM-2X series pots fit the footprint. The original pot reads 6 - 3, meaning that it is a 6k pot. It has measured 6.2k, so this fits. However, I was not able to find such a pot. If you need to replace it, just take 10k. You extend the lower range with this pot a little bit (so you can go to lower currents and the range of the pot is bigger), but this shouldn't matter.

This driver is still sold here:
https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf...o-flexdrive-v5
and here:
https://innolasers.com/shop/index.ph...roller=product

Hope this helps some of you guys.

Best regards,
Nikolas

Looking for a safe laserpointer with the highest range

Hey,
i am going to buy a laserpointer and need suggestions (for up to 90$).
I prefer the color blue but other colors are fine too.
I just want to point with it FAR as possible, and please no HIGH power laser pointers (not for now since i am new and i am looking more for a very cheap laserpointer just for pointing and a high range thats all).

Keep in mind that the laserpointer has to be legit for my country !

"Spica" - My 455nm Nichia Custom by Badboybilly

"Spica"
Named after my favourite blue binary star.

This bad boy (pun intended) is a 455nm NUBM08 custom build made by badboybilly.

It's a glorious piece of art with perfect tolerances,
a 2-element AR coated lens, a SuperXD set to 4.5A
and a de-gballed Nichia NUBM08 diode pumping in at around 5.75 Watts.
(Ophir wasnt taken, waiting on a heavy thermopile to get actual reading, will edit later).

The head is nice and large with no set pin, so perfect thermals
and long duty cycles for igniting magnesium behind glass for instance,
there are many crazy applications for chemists and physicists alike!

It takes 2x 18650 in series.
My 3450mAh Panasonic GA Button tops worked a treat.
I have a constant current charger called the Lii-500
which is superior to Xtar and Opus PWM I feel, so the driver should enjoy healthy long lasting batteries.

It felt like yesterday when 100mw Bluray's were the only blues around,
now we have diodes that are getting closer and closer to Star Trek Phasers.

Hurray for science.

Cheers Badboybilly!

Look what I've got stashed in my humidor.....

I couldn't resist these gorgeous hosts from Rich, which I've bought over time as they became available.
Initially he made the two small Vape hosts for me specifically in those colours as I planned to put a 405nm in the purple one and a 490nm in the turquoise.

Then, when the large blue host (1x 18650) came up for sale I bought it for a second 490nm module I have had stashed away.
Recently the long green host (2 x 18650) was for sale so I'm thinking of putting an NDG7475 in that one.

Should be able to light the cigars with either the 405nm or the 520nm, that way they'll have a dual purpose ....
Mind you, I haven't smoked a cigar in years but hey, they smell lovely just sitting in the humidor.

Mind you, the hosts might have to sit in the humidor and age for a while, till I get around to completing them.
I still have a coupe of badboybilly's units to review first.

High power single mode

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, so I hope this does not break any rules.

I am trying to build a high power (some Ws) white light (blue+green+red) laser source which is single mode (spatial). Ideally I would just want to buy e.g. 1W diodes for 450nm, 550nm and 650nm and couple them to their respective single mode fibers. Such diodes, if existent, are extremely expensive (see Thorlabs) which is why I want to use several single mode diodes at each wavelength.

The question is: which combination of diodes can I buy that offer the most power/money but are still single mode.

I had a look at the Sticky: List of Diodes but it does not state prizes and getting a quote for each takes time. This is why I thought, maybe somebody already has experience in this! :)

Cheers,
Jonas

Hi all!

After going dead for several months (school sucks :/), I have returned and still have 10 of these diodes untouched and spectroe'd by Paul.

These bad boys will run you $24, and 7$ express shipping

Here are the wavelengths for each diode, you can request a certain one if you'd like.

Quality keychain laser pointer

Hello,
I am looking for a high-quality, *small*, keychain laser pointer.

I am NOT looking for a very bright pointer. I care more about battery life.

Batteries should be small button type or perhaps AAA.

I just bought cheap one from eBay and it's crap. I googled, looked on eBay, used the search function here, but so far haven't found anything good.

Thanks.

Sanwu Spiker 5w 470nm

Finally received this crazy handheld laser from sanwu about a week ago and I am very impressed. Obviously it's crazy bright and burns like a champ. The host quality is much better than expected and I was expecting border line perfection. The host is MASSIVE and built very well. Very visible beam in the daylight.

Divergence is terrible as expected, but what I didn't expect is a 2nd beam that shoots parallel with the main beam. It's very visible and hopefully that's clear in the picture.

Overall I'm impressed with this laser. The 2nd beam that's projected along with the main beam really kills it for me. It ruins the look of the laser output in my opinion. This would be an easy 10/10 review from me but personally I can't stand that second beam. I'll end it off with some shots, including a size comparison with some other lasers.

Hello LPF! Better late than never!

Hello everyone! I should of made this post back when I joined in 2014, but hey, better late than never right?

My name is Matthew, I live in Minnesota, and I'm 19 years old. Lasers have been an interest of mine since I was in the 5th grade. I got into the hobby with some cheap, over advertised lasers when I was 15. Really didn't have the money for it, so i took I hiatus from this hobby until now. I'm so excited to back to lasing!

I finally ordered a new laser and glasses to get back in! I got a 100mw 405nm Prome 301 from LPS. I already received it, however I'm waiting for my 18650s and charger to come in. (I love how China DHL is faster than my domestic shipping! :/) I'll make sure to do a review of the unit once I've got it up and running!

Anyways, thank you so much everyone! Reading through the posts on this forum has revived my interest in this hobby! I can't wait to get a real laser collection going! My next unit will probably be a 488nm laser, since diodes for that wavelength are a thing now.

Stay safe, and happy lasing everyone!

120/240VAC Question

I'm wanting to put some high power outlets in the garage for some powerful tools. I don't have any more room in my breaker box, so I figure I can put the dryer on a switch so it can't be used at the same time as the garage outlets that will be using its breakers.

I have a few questions when it comes to AC wiring. Do 240v appliances only need 2 hot (120v) wires and a ground wire and no neutral? Even if they still need the neutral wire, the 240v is between the 2 hots right? My dryer has two 30A breakers does that equate to 30A 240v or 60A 240v? I assume just 30A.

So, from the wire going to the dryer I should get two 30A 120v lines when used with the neutral line, or one 30A 240v line right?

I'm mainly just trying to figure out what relays I want to use fro switching between the dryer and outlets. I hope to have two 120v outlets on each line(4 total), and two 240v outlets. Of course I'd not run both 120v and 240v tools at once because that would be unbalanced with this setup.

Room temperature Orange Laser Diodes

Only a brief article but worth sharing I thought. Orange laser diodes are becoming a reality at room temperature using AlGaInP. Won't be long and we'll be seeing true yellow laser diodes also.
I wonder how long it will be before companies like Sharp get their hands on these?

Anyway, the wavelengths generated at the moment are 599 and 605nm.

599 ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦

605 ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦

WOW! This thing is built unbelievably well. Host quality knocks it out of the park. The laser is VERY bright and doesn't have half bad divergence. I'll include a few pictures with a sanwu 5w 470nm and a lazerer 400mw 532nm. The hill in the pictures is roughly 1 mile away.

Sanwu comunication

Hello all in the forum, ime a life long laser hobbyist & builder/collector.
I was wondering if any one has experience with Sanwu in the last few weeks. Ive ordered a 1 watt red with beam expander on the 21st of May.
I had to chase them up as i had no contact from them as to progress or dispatch,
they got back to me via facebook & told me it will be dispatched the Wednesday just gone.
Ive had no email notification or notification in my sanwu account that anything has happened be that dispatch or delays or a tracking number.
Even Ebay sellars have better communication than this. Does any one know if they are having problems ?
