I just purchased the challenger, https://www.sanwulasers.org/product/challenger and noticed it didn't come with batteries. Trying to find one that works for it but I'm clueless when it comes to batteries. Are there any good rechargeble batteries that work in it? And if so what charger should I use.

Just wanting to see if anyone has any plans to try and be somewhere in the path of totality for this event?
If so, and you have to travel, where and why that location?
I'm leaning towards St. Joseph, Missouri. Mostly because there is a full event already planned there, which will have some astronomers in attendance, that will be giving some lectures, and have some nice scopes setup for all to use.
The last one was in 1979, and just clipped the top west corner of the U.S. And the next won't be until 2024, which will go from Texas up to Maine.
I personally have already made sure that I have time off around this event, which will be on a Monday. :beer:

Melles griot laser setup
Hello guys I know this will be my fourth post about this laser but I think this post deserves a separate thread because things are going to get complicated. I ordered this laser and I believe it came out of a sequencing machine called an illumina or something like that and I need to figure out how to wire it. The person I bought it from included some kind of power supply but I don't know what kind yet and the controller for the laser which I will put a link up for this laser. The instructions go like this.
Here are some basic instructions.
MG CLC laser power:
On POWER/CONTROL HD15 connector:
Power: +5 VDC, 6 A max, fat yellow Wire (pins 1,2,3 of HD15).
Ground: fat black wire (pins 9,11,12,13 of HD15).
Blue wire (interlock) should be connected to Ground as well.
Earth ground: Green wire should be attached to safety ground of power supply.
MG CLC laser control:
On POWER/CONTROL HD15 connector:
Laser ON: SPDT momentary switch (e.g., miniature toggle or pushbutton):
Pin 11/Ground (black wires in harness) to common
Pin 6 to normally closed
Pin 5 to normally open
Laser OFF: SPST momentary switch (e.g., miniature pushbutton):
Pin 11/Ground (black wires in harness) to common
Pin 7 to normally open
Pin 11/Ground can be connected to the fat black power Ground wire, it
doesn't need to go inside the connector shell. But the others do.
It's tight soldering in there. Use #24 wire and heatshrink.
Switches can be bought from a place like Jameco, MPJA, All Electronics,
Digikey, etc.
The RS232 port needs to be used to set the default power and possibly enable
the laser the first time. After that, the ON and OFF switches alone will
permit it to be turned on and off at full power. I have not tested the
modulation input but that should be usable to vary power assuming it is
active. (If you have mating SMA cables, please send.)
Using RS232 (19,200 baud):
LAS:POW:REF 450
Sets power to maximum of 450 mW out of fiber.
I do not know what the rated power is, possibly 300 mW if similar to the Ignis.
So, could set for 300 mW instead:
LAS:POW:REF 300
There may be one more command needed to enable the laser (first time only).

Help!How to clean laser pointer lens
I got my laser about two years ago, recently，there were some little black dot at the pattern , I guess there was something that block the laser lens,now the question is : how can I clean it, I don't wanna buy another one since it was sent by my girl friend...

Laser Pointer for Commercial Purposes

I am looking to purchase a laser pointer and relevant accessories for commercial purposes. This will be used for applications including:
- Identification of features during geological investigations
- Reference straight line for set out of fencing/power lines in remote locations (bush, forest)
The following list documents the requirements for the laser pointer:
1. Laser 'dot' needs to be visible on surface at 250m in daylight (not the beam)
2. Power to be minimised (I assume that selecting a green laser is the best option in this regard)
It would be great if people with a laser pointer could advise the real world distances they obtain when used in a manner consistent with the applications noted above so I can avoid an incorrect selection.
The additional items that I require are as follows:
- A mounting bracket that can be used to set the laser pointer in a set position (compatible with a standard tripod thread)
- Safety glasses that protect users that work around the 'dot' during set out whilst permitting some visibility
As I live in Australia I would appreciate product suggestions that are available locally and which are compliant with Australian Standards (as relevant).

Another newcomer!
I am an electrical engineer, living and working in central Pennsylvania, USA. Very new to the laser community but working to become proficient as part of several ongoing projects studying the potential use of lasers. Very glad to find this highly informed community of folks and am looking forward to learning from all of you. Over the past months I have been working with procuring small (3-4 mm OD) Class II red lasers, a beam profiling camera and an optical power meter.

Trying to find aa sized lions that can ouput 1.5 volts

I've been searching for a while for this. Can someone help me find a AA battery that is high drain like the lion cells we use but is 1.5 volts. Also could this type work in a nitecore charger. My dad needs this for a camera that takes double A's but it drains too fast.

Okay so this is about a completely different thing since I've been getting yelled at for the past couple of days for having too many threads on the same laser so here it is

What should one expect to see while wearing safety glasses?
I just picked up a cheap eBay 405nm laser to play with. From what I understand, this model is putting out between 750mW and 1W (based on testing results posted on these forums and from a friend who put one on a LPM). It came with a set of glasses that look identical to these...

Being that these are Chinese glasses, I'm kind of nervous about them. I've never used safety glasses with visible lasers before (just IR) so I'm not 100% sure what to expect. I've seen these glasses recommended here but I've also read negative comments about them.
With the glasses on I cannot see the beam but the dot is quite visible (tested on non-reflective surfaces like carpet). The dot looks kind of redish with some blue fringing.
I'm wondering what I should expect to see if the glasses are actually blocking the proper frequency? Should the dot be visible?
I searched around and didn't find a definite answer to this question so I figured it was worth a new post.

M140 Power Benchmarks
Hey guys! Just recently assembled my third laser! I used an M-type M140 with an X-Drive from DTR's shop and was wondering what it should be able to do. I don't have an LPM yet so I cannot tell what the exact value is, but what should I be able to do with an average M140 diode? I'm assuming the driver from DTR is set at 1.8 Amps and so far, with a bit of practice I was able to light a candle. I'm not sure what else I could do with this besides blind myself, but don't worry, I have the Eagle Pair for 190nm to 540nm. I have yet to actually ignite any material other than a candlewick or a match.

LF Decent Focusing Host
I am trying to find a decently priced host to build a focusing 365nm light(diode linked below). I have and am fond of the light linked below but I'm hoping for a better host without breaking the bank.

1) I'm looking for a light that will focus to the point of being able to see the shape of the emitter.
2) I would like a host with a glass lens or a lens that's easy to upgrade to glass, but this isn't a deal breaker for me.
3) I would also prefer a host that can hold (2) lithium-ion batteries since I'll be using a buck or linear driver.

Laserbuilder's collection of gas and other lasers
Here I will share photos of the lasers I currently have in my collection. Approximately it contains about 60 laser heads, laser tubes, laser pumping chambers and about 15 laser related equipment like associated to laser heads power supplies, cooling machines, dye circulators etc. Less than a half of them is operational and can give laser beams. I will post here only those lasers that are operational, some of them are in quantity more than 1. Each post will be about one of the lasers, because it is quite difficult to write a HUGE post with loads of photos.
