New thread for member flash or gif artwork

We have a determined "newbie" who wants to make artwork to share in the forum in various threads, please put them all here. If you keep joining under different member names and posting this stuff in random threads, they will be deleted and you will be banned each time. Technically you shouldn't be allowed back in, once banned, and also for trolling, but if you really want to share your feelings that much, just post it here using one member name and please stop trashing up member threads.

Have fun with it, but don't be mad, I'm sure you have heard the hot coal in the hand analogy.

G-ball removal testing

I have access to dry inert boxes at work. I was thinking to decan some ball diodes in various gas and see what happens. I’m thinking nitrogen’s d another in argon. Nitrogen is not inert.

What diodes do you want to see and I don’t have a power meter so what do you suggest? I was thinking to run them at recommended current 24/7 and measure the output once a day. If found stable once a week.

One decanned/one not decanned.

To this was thinking to add a decanned in air. This would give us the real info we need.

If this data exist let me know to save me a lot of time.

I would also like to try various methods to reseal decanned diodes.

Thoughts? What diodes?

Metal too gummy to cut? Draw on it with a Sharpie or glue stick, science says

Your everyday permanent markers, glue sticks and packing tape may offer a surprisingly low-tech solution to a long-standing nuisance in the manufacturing industry: Making soft and ductile, or so-called metals easier to cut.

Help improving beam collimation/side artifacts

Hi all,

I've been working on a 2W 462nm build for a while now, and tonight I was able to fire it properly (outside at full power with a glass 3-element lens) for the first time. However, I'm noticing that there's still some scatter occurring out to the sides along the same plane where the out-of-focus beam spreads. (see image)

How can I get rid of these artefacts? Is this something I can fix with focusing? Do I need to replace the lens? Is it simply inherent to the diode? My goal is the cleanest, tightest long-range beam, not engraving or burning. (unless I can burn at a distance)

Hello from Singapore.

My profession is in graphic design, computer-based training software design & computer animation. I see & manipulate colors on screen everyday. To me, lasers are the pinnacle of colors in motion and in function, they are just fascinating!

Good to be here and learning from you guys.

Hello and thanks for providing this wonderful space!

I'm Rawco from NYC. Looking to share knowledge about lasers and maybe have a local meetup group going on!

I'm a systems computer engineer and I like breaking stuff to know how it works.

I did realize that there are many many links to dead websites which highly confuse me =)

I would love to see "LPFs laser pointer company database" - when clicking on this link, it sends me to a "parked" website which just shows a bunch of ads.

by no means a "laser pointer company database" - I'll understand if it's a paid sponsor link. Just highly confusing.

Deciding between Sanwu and JetLasers

I'm looking to get a green laser that's smaller than the standard PL-E Pro, so i'm looking at the PL-E Mini in 700mW 532nm or 1W 520nm. However, i'm also looking into Sanwu's stuff for the first time since I hear it's a good company and the Challenger 2 seems like a good pick as well. The main thing i'm wondering is how the models compare in terms of size, battery life, and heat. Any info?

Hello .My name Austin (15 yo )from Thailand . Im interesting in the laser things like the diode itself or the pointer .I came here for finding some knowlegde about the laser and finding for some good advices for my own laser build .I hope everyone can help me . Oh Im also finding the some of "laser stuffs " store on the ebay because in Thailand can't find any of them.I just post this after reading the rules .So I would respect everyone in this forums "in the parties" .

Im very glad to be there In the world of LASER .
And I hope I can improve my english language skill by using english more frequently

Looking to buy a crappy green pointer 50mw+

So I'm looking for a cheap green pointer with my main concern being a beautiful beam. I couldn't possibly care less about burning but I wouldn't mind being able to pop balloons. Preferably under $20 and like I said I don't really care too much about quality, as long as it works. I generally am looking for anything between 60-150mw.

Would this one fit my needs?

And if not I'd appreciate it if someone could link me to one that would.

Where to find affordable diodes that aren't custom ordered

Hello world!
I'm a long time lurker of this site becuase I've never really needed to make an account till now. My problem is I can't find diodes between 500-600 nm and 50-100 mwatts that you don't have to custom order. Wattage is flexible for this project because all it needs to do is burn through/imolate cardoard. I just don't want to have to buy a bunch of laser pointers and dismantle them.

Any help is appreciated. If I communicated something wrong then ask and I'll rephrase it so I don't sound like an idiot

Thanks! :thanks:

Whenever I put it on high mode it works a little then shuts off and the 3 leds blink . only way to turn it back on is to power off and back on.
The battery says its fully charged. Could iy be a bad battery or something else?

Is it possible the battery cant handle the draw?

Also what is the best battery to buy for this laser?

Thanks in advance

Often I see first time posters not making an introductory post and members will kindly point out to that first time poster to make an introductory post. What I've perhaps missed since I've been a long time member is where is it explained to a new member to make an introductory post? If there is a written rule to do that posted, is it plainly visible?

Trying to keep it simple this post. 2 Mirrors in a bit of a "V" formation, both slightly tilted back.

I am so glad to find this forum.

I unfortunately found this forum after I ordered some $5 laser googles from banggood

I reorder better ones from survival laser.

I am looking to make a 2.5w laser engraver.

Using a LPM to test laser engraving enclosure

I want to make a 2.5w 445nm blue laser engraving enclosure, in addition to wearing googles.

The laser enclosures are expensive and small.

What If I buy 4mm thick orange acrylic, and test it with a LPM?

I can test the reflection, as well as a direct shot through the acrylic. It would be hard to test a direct shot because the laser will burn through acrylic when measuring.

Any ideas?

Hello LPF forum members,
my name is Pratap and I'm from India.I'm a long time reader of LPF but whenever I had a question about laser related stuff I just googled my question along with laser pointer forums as a tag and bingo, the answers were here.So I never tried to register. Now is the time to do so cause I'm building a 2W 445nm laser for my CNC.I just want to share my experiences and If I ever get a regular question that no one ever answered which is highly unlikely then I'm in the right place to get my help.

I've rephrase the question. Assuming naked eye 20/20 vision clear air with minimal particulates and dry desert air at what distance would this sulfur laser if projected horizontally at a matte white surface have an apparent spot brightness of a 6 magnitude star? This video I think covers (sorta) the question.

"Green laser pointers are amazingly useful tools for teaching the general public about the night sky, it's easy to point out specific targets and have everyone know what you mean. Sometimes people will point out satellites and even the ISS, so I wanted to figure out whether an astronaut on the ISS would be able to see lasers from people on the ground.

Here's the original video of the ISS Flash project: "
