JL's pl-e pro 532 800mw questions

Considering purchasing a pro 532 800 mw with a beam expander. Searched for a review but couldn't find one? Found one for the 400mw one but nothing for the 800mw one. So I was wondering if anyone has any hands-on experience with the 800mw unit. Have a couple of WL Krypton's that are the older version ( 532 nm's ) like to add another 532 to my collection. Looking for input/advise on the buy ?

Is this 520nm legit?

In the title I bought this laser (I think it is a laser) I was wondering if anyone here knows what this laser is. Is the laser in the hand piece? or is the laser in the base unit. thank you so much for any information I tried to post a picture but this site makes it hard and I am not a computer savvy person and will end up throwing this computer out the window. Sorry

Got a question

I purchased one of them 30.00 '"green'" 1000mw laser off ebay .. I have a question on why is there this circle around the beam ? It's only visible kinda close . But when you shine the laser beam out say 50 yards I just get a bright green dot .iam try to up load a pic so somebody with a lot more knowledge on lasers can educate me on this issue. And is it worth fixing .

Just wishing all US members well for this historic day.
Whether the opinions of Trump are positive or negative; he is to be welcomed as the 45th President of the US, despite defying all odds. I know its being talked about a lot here in the UK, as it is probably is all over the world.
Here's to a hopefully positive future.

I am looking for someone who has about 30 minutes of time for a skype call this weekend to ask a few questions about reoccuring issues I am having when building new lasers. Figured it would likely be easier to show you what I am working with in realtime rather than just try and articulate it in a post with photos. Thank you!

Cold Steel Green Laser Build - 1.438 Watts of 520nm!

Hi guys n' gals(but mostly guys lol), this is my first green laser build at over 1.4 Watts of power and 520nm of color. All the parts are listed below this paragraph(links coming soon) and an explaination of how I assembled the parts together.

From DTR:
-N-company NDG7475 1.438 Watt 520 nm Laser diode in Full Length 12 mm Copper Module with Leads and G-2 Lens ($215.00)
Shipping: Free, Total: $215.00

From SurvivalLaserUSA:
-DIY Stainless Steel Host Assembly, Extended and Tapered Heat Sink, Unmarked ($49.99)
-DIY 1.7A - 2.4A Driver & Pill Module (set at 2.4A) ($39.99)
-Extended Length Focusing Ring - Green Anodized ($9.99)
-Extended Length Focusing Ring - Blue Anodized (I got another one for my other laser) ($9.99)
-(3x)Silicone Lens Cap, I got extra just in case ($1.47)
Shipping: FREE (over $100 order), Total: $100.28

From Li-Ion Wholesale:
-(2x)Efest IMR 16340 700mah 7A Button Top Battery ($7.98)
-EFest LUC 2 Bay LCD and USB Li-ion Battery Charger ($19.25)
Shipping: $6.16, Total: $33.39

Grand Total (includes extra focus ring and two extra lens caps): $348.67

I know thats a lot of dough to put into a just one laser but I got perhaps the best batteries and charger on the market. The diode is also a whopping $190 for just the bare diode, nonetheless this is an AMAZING and beautiful laser.

Here's the three packages, one from DTR, one from SurvivalLaserUSA, and one from Li-ion Wholesale

All of the contents opened from the packages and organized

I put the green anodized extended length focus ring on the lens, isn't it beautiful?

Gonna need some thermal compound from an eariler build to fill in the gap between the copper module and the copper heatsink

Put some on the copper module, just a little bit goes a long way

Spread it all over

Fed the wires and module through the heatsink

Installed the heatsink into the top part of the host, added the cap to the lens, and the driver+pill for the next step

Cut some short heatshrink and put over the anode and cathode wires

Soldered it up and shrank the heatshrink over the connections

Now to screw the driver+pill into the body of the host

Screwed the driver+pill into the host body

Here's a top view of the previous picture

And a view of the top part of the host unscrewed from the body

Okay so here I ran into some trouble, the laser didn't turn on after I first assembled it. I found out that the heatshrink attached to the diode itself seen below was torn and exposed some of the wire. This tiny hole was shorting the circuit out and was causing the problem.

I added some electrical tape to the exposed wire

Bam! Done! Beam shots at the end :D

This thing is incredibly bright, it is just as bright as my over 7 Watt NUBM44 if not brighter. I firmly believe anyone into lasers should have one of these diodes driven to over 1.4 Watts in their collection. Overall the host and laser are a beautiful combo especially with the green extended focus nut. More beam shots and a burning video coming soon, cheers

Laser diode burnout

I recently bought a NUBM08 laser module. When I supply power to it, it seems like the initial spot is slightly larger and brighter than it is after say a half a second after being turned on. I am thinking this is just how these drivers work, but I'm unsure and hoping this guy isn't slowly dying. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Groomsman gifts. Alternative to ebay 5mw ?

Looking for some groomsman gifts. Figured I'd get them some lasers, because who doesnt like a nice greenie right?

I would really like to get some in the price and power range as the overspec ebay ones. But, most of my guys either have one or seen mine.

So i was hoping someone here could point me towards an alternative with maybe a better looking host (not so cheap looking) for around the same price.

I understand you get what you pay for so im willing to spend a little more but dont want to break the bank either. I still have a wedding to pay for too. Haha.

I need to buy 10 of them.

Where to find brass or stainless steel made laser pens?

HI guys. This may be a bizarre post but I figure I should post it anyway so maybe someone could help me find a good laser pen. I am new to forums but I have had a couple of laser pens years and years ago and back then I remember they used to be made with better material mostly brass or maybe copper anyway they were also harder to break or take apart and they were still cheap price from china. Now today laser pens are too cheap it is all aluminium made pretty much like how dollar store lasers are made they are just not good anymore. They used to be good quality for a decent price now today its the opposite.. Does anyone know a place online that sells a good quality laser pen made of brass or stainless steel or even copper? I only I have one good laser pen but need more of these but can't find any!

Also I used to have this green laser pointer that was bottle shape made of stainless steel and can't seem to find that one anywhere either..

looking for cheap 470-500nm LED diode

Looking for 470nm-500nm led flashlight diode and suitable driver. Trying to build a light blue flashlight for under $15. Preferably over 100 lm but will take any suggestions. I tried fasttech and couldn't find anything except a 455nm diode.

Does anyone have any ideas for a driver for this?

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/...nm-led-emitter

It doesn't even list amps so I tried to do some research with cree and am still doing that. (edit) Found the max current in is 1amp (1000ma).

I just ordered that diode. It shows it with a base plate but I don't know if it has one. Can someone help me determine this? Edit: Obviously not paying attention as it says "on board."
Thanks for any help

:thanks:

So I ordered two 800ma drivers and a 455nm and 470-480nm diode on 14mm and 12mm baseplate respectively with one of the flashlights that grainde recommended in his build.
Wish me luck. Now for the multi month wait. Hopefully they ship today before the 22nd which is when the guy leaves for chinese new year.

Wow please explain

focusing lens for sls 3d printer

I am very new to optics and lasers. I understand some of the concepts involved with focusing a laser diode, but it is very general and a very small amount. I am currently building a 3d sls printer and I want to have my laser source about 8 inches (200 mm) away from the powder that is going to be sintered using the laser.

I plan to couple the laser diode to a fiber optic and I understand I will need a lens to focus the laser into the fiber optic and a lens after the fiber optic to focus the beam again. I currently do not know what kind of laser diode I will use but I need a focused laser spot of 0.1 mm.

I am currently looking at using a collimating lens and a focus lens to get the laser spot correct because from the information i gathered the ratio of the two lens multiplied by the diameter of the fiber optic will give me my laser spot diameter.

Is it possible to have my laser source 8 inches (200 mm) away and still get a laser spot of 0.1 mm?

I have looked at lens focal lengths and it seems hard to find them in the correct ratio to get that small of a laser spot at that far of a distance. I also do not want to have a big focusing head because it will be moving around a lot.

Also, I have seen focusing lens with a 200 mm focal length could I just use that after the fiber optic and get the same laser spot?

If there are any tips or suggestions or any info you could provide that could lead me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

2 LPMs for sale Laserbee II Deluxe and ARG LPM 1.1v

I have decided to put 2 of my LPMs (laser power meters) up for sale as I will be having to do an upgrade.

I have for sale:

1) Laserbee II 3.2W that comes with RS232-USB adapter and installer CD.
If you're on MacOS or Linux OS use the Java based Peregrine LPM software.
Price is $190 USD (does not including shipping)
The LPM is used but in excellent condition and is within 1% of the
reading on my Ophir 20C sensor. This is a TEC based LPM.

2) An ARG LPM v1.1 that will do both TEC and Ophir sensors up to 4.5W.
Price is $180 USD. It does NOT
include the Ophir sensor. Input to the ARG LPM is 9Vdc only.
DO NOT under any circumstances exceed 9Vdc or damage the regulator will result.

Both LPMs are in excellent condition and tested against already calibrated lasers. The ARG LPM is 100% open source and uses a Arduino UNO v3
as a base platform. Both the LCD panel and the Arduino UNO come together and the Arduino UNO will come pre-flashed with the ARG LPM 1.1v firmware.
ARG can provide the firmware for changing the input to TEC if this is needed.

Choosing safety glasses

They are rather expensive (I know, no price on eyesight..) so I thought I'd try various cheaper ones first, sending back those that are no good.

But what will be good / no good?

I wondered if there was any chance of people kindly donating pairs of comparison pics of: A beam hitting a white target, and: The same but with the beam having passed through one of their (known to be good) spectacle lenses on the way? Together with the specification of the glasses? So that I know the kind of attenuation I should expect?

At the moment I'm using a 650nm red, but may move to blue for greater burning power.

It would no doubt be useful to other people, too.

Thank-you very much!

600mW Yellow Laser Build

So I just purchased these dichroic mirrors (link) to build a high power yellow laser by mixing red and green laser light. Here's a picture of what I hope will work, please let me know if you see any flaws :D

So which red wavelength should I get 650nm or 638nm? Also what about the green wavelength, 520nm or 532nm? I noticed in jayrobs tutorial here (link) he used 650nm and 532nm. Would it be the same if I used 638nm and 520nm? Also should I use the 3-element lens or G-2 lens?
