SXD-V3 Adjustable driver problems (HELP!!)

I've been using the the SXD-V3 5000ma adjustable driver for a while now and I keep running into the issue of having no response from the potentiometer. ON about half of them I run into this. I'm using a 1 ohm 100watt resistor to simulate a NUBM44 or NUBM06 diode. I'm able to set the current fine on some and then on the rest it just runs at max power. I am getting a selectable test load and bench power supply. But right now I'm using 2x LG 18650 batteries to power the driver.
If anyone could give some advice or has run into a similar problem please let me know. Thanks
