First, I have no experience with lasers, which is why I am here. Please forgive my ignorance.
REASON FOR LASER:
I ride dirt bikes in the mountain behind my house. In case I get stuck/hurt I have a GPS beacon which allows me to message my roommates of my location and that I need help. However, the GPS location is sometimes pretty inaccurate. Last time I got a flat in the dark and asked for help it took my roommates 2+ hours to find my exact location. I need a very bright laser to point into the sky (at night mostly) so my roommates can find me faster.
WHAT I GOT:
I spent 60$ and bought a thor M2 laser. Link here
(Thor M II 2 Adjustable Laser Pointer 445nm 450nm Blue Laser Burn Match Paper | eBay)
It was the first high powered laser I saw so I got it. After some research looks like a green laser would have been easier to see and the better choice. To late now this will have to do.
The specs for the laser are in the link. It says wavelength is 450nm and power is 1400mw.
SAFETY:
I WILL NOT be using safety glasses. The purpose is purely signaling in the sky and possibly pointing towards the general location of my friends from afar. I do not have any more room for glasses in my backpack while riding.
QUESTIONS:
1. What is the maximum I can do with this laser with NO glasses without hurting myself or others.
1A. Is pointing it in the sky and looking at the beam in the sky alright?
1B. Is pointing the laser pointer at a nearby hill to signal ok?
1C. Is pointing the laser pointer towards my friends to signal them from a distance ok?
1D. At what point will this laser begin to hurt my eye with no glasses. i.e. pointing the laser at a wall and looking at the dot 20ft away? Will that cause damage? 5ft away? etc?
2. If this laser does not work for me (not bright enough, etc) could you guys please suggest some better lasers that will work for my situation? Thanks.
