Hello,
I just joined this forum because of my interest in lasers for a while and my sudden interest in purchasing one. I would just like to use it for pointing at stars or through smoke, mainly for novelty. I would like to be able to see the beam at night but it does not necessarily have to be ultra bright. From what I have read a 5mW-20mW pointer would do the trick, depending on whether claimed mW is correct. My budget is around $20-$25 mainly because I don't think I could justify spending more on something I wouldn't use that much.

Looking at the DealExtreme and GearBest websites there are many 532nm pointers on there, with the generic pen style for around $5 and then an "SD-###" brand for US$10-20. I was wondering if anyone has any input to offer on these; if one or the other would have a more accurate mW rating for example.

Also, I was thinking of picking up a 405nm pointer for about $5 just for a pretty blue option, thoughts?

Thank you for your patience with a newb like myself
