Here is my latest... a Nichia NUBM44 at ~6.8 watts housed in a Solar Force L2 host via a custom heat sink module from JayRob. This one was a pain in the butt to build as I had to undo a lot of Jordan's beautiful solder connections to install the module and driver into the heat sink module. I had to very carefully round the corners of the driver with a file and then do some heavy Dremel work on the heat sink to get the driver to fit flat inside the designated driver area so it could be thermally attached to the heat sink module. I didn't take any pictures while I was working (I was too focused on getting the driver to fit) but here is the finished laser and an example of the damage it could do with a ~2 second laser burst.
The laser almost immediately burned through a blue business card and then put a nice black dimple on my wall. The card also caught fire so I had to rush it too the sink and dowse it with water. I put it back in its original spot to take the picture.
Sorry, no beam shots since I do not have protective eyewear anymore. I am going to have to get some really good laser goggles for this one.
